Creating a Logo Design for Your Dental Practice

Whatever industry you’re in, having a logo is crucial to your success. A logo is what will create your brand and is what will allow you to tie all of your different services and products together. What’s more, it’s what you can use in your marketing and in your social media efforts in order to reinforce the image you’re trying to create for your business and to build authority and trust. A logo is crucial to your dentists branding and branding right is critical for your success.

The question is, just how do you go about creating your logo? Let’s take a look…

The Technical Requirements

When it comes to creating a logo, what is it that you are actually creating? It will be an ‘image’ yes but specifically it needs to be in a particular file format that will be useable as you need it to be. That file format is what’s known as a ‘vector’, which is a type of image that consists of instructions that tell software how to draw particular shapes, logos and outlines. This is as opposed to a raster image, which includes the likes of BMP, PNG and JPG. When you create a raster image, you have a ‘map’ of pixels which gives the image a set resolution and makes it harder to edit. Vector images are preferable by far because they can be easily altered and because they can be enlarged and zoomed out of without it affecting the image quality. The best way to create vector images is with the well-known Adobe Illustrator software and you can find plenty of tutorials on using this on YouTube.

The Design

Now you have the ‘how’, you’re going to need the ‘what’. What does a good logo design look like? How should you manage your branding?

For starters, you always should aim to make your logos simple and versatile. That’s because you’ll be using them in a variety of ways – on your website, in and on your dental practice, on your business cards… Ideally this should be something that looks good on any background and that you can easily reproduce. Remember, dentists marketing doesn’t just refer to your logo itself but also to your website and all your marketing materials that should incorporate the same design.

You also need to ensure that your logo reflects your business and industry – try drawing down different things that relate to your business and see if you can combine them in unique ways with your company name to come up with something new. Do note though that you should also try your best to avoid clichés. Going for a big tooth is a little ‘on the nose’ – try to be more creative!

Of course you can always leave it to the professional dentists branding services alternatively…
